Eh It was alright Award: Jack (The Elite) Books #1&2

Jack Book #1&#2 KB Winter

I really didn't feel the characters in this series. Yes I know that it was broken relationship from the get-go in the beginning of book one. But I just didn't understand why I should have care for these characters too much. I thought it was basically on again, off again relationship when I didn't feel like they were really dwelling into what they should be doing. Which was communicating. Instead they just start going off on these fights, which led to break ups and then they couldn't be without each other. I didn't feel like they were dwelled into enough for me to care about them. When I thought was the new character who was going to cause conflict, he was barely even in it. I think I cared more about how the dogs were separated more than the characters themselves. There were some moments where there was a suspense "oh I didn't see that coming" a couple times. But yet, they still didn't communicate with each other until the end. It was like both characters were too much into themselves to really truly care about each other in forming the long term relationship stronger. It was an okay book. But I felt delving into the characters feelings more and maybe causing more conflict would have helped. But the sex scenes were pretty hot! I did receive these books by the author to give an honest review.

Jenna's Cookie Award: More Than A Slave

More Than A SlaveMore Than A Slave by Anaelle Gadeyne

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Reading some of the reviews on how this is degrading. Yes it was a little violent but it was a FICTIONAL world where this slavery does not exist in reality. I feel a lot of people are bring it down because they are comparing it to non-fiction world.

I received this ARC copy to give an honest review. I loved it. I was expecting romantic fluff thinking the book would be a story about a slave and her master. Boy was I wrong.

Yes it is a little gruesome and violent but it also included a woman (Aria, love the characters name) and her strong characterization of speaking up even if that resulted in punishment. And when she falls into the hands of Alexander Anderson and the rumors of how horrible his family, it goes from there. Aria thinking that she will probably will die soon.

The romance comes where Alexander and Aria have a game of "cat and mouse" where they drive each other mad but also includes sexual tension. Throughout the book it was suspenseful because you never knew if Alexander was going to go off his word and abuse her because of his anger issues. But Aria still pushes him back and forth throughout.

Aria is well written because of her sensitivity and her brashness against Alexander. Which the rest of the family believe if he hadn't killed her by now, she must mean something to him.

It was a very nice change of pace in the romantic genre. The only issue I had was when a character spoke in POV and the paragraph later the other character's POV. It got a little confusing.

And the fact that I couldn't put it down, even at work, I believe I found this novel a surprisingly good read.

Jenna's Cookie Awards: Reaper's Rival Book #2

Reaper's RivalReaper's Rival by Simone Elise

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This time she's a bad ass. Loved how Simone Elise made Abby all grown up with what she needed to do to block out Reaper leaving her. Again it's a major on again, off again story about how they both felt it is for the best to be out of each other lives, except there's really no need to fight it. I felt there was a little dragged on in that case, but again, I was following all their adventures and was so into it. I even cried at one point. Not going to give spoilers out, but there is some parts where it is so touching. And then wam bam there are so many moments that Abby is gun happy, which I though was a nice change from most female characters I've read. And just the same with Reaper. I thought how he showed a really sensitive side to his outer personality when it came to Abby. It was a nice transition from being this bad boy to see how he softens up only to Abby. Shows how much he cares but not too mushy. Which was great. Although I received an ARC copy from the publisher to give a true honest review, I am so ready for book #3.

Jenna's Cookie Award: Elin Peer

Elin Peeris becoming one of my favorite authors. The Accidental Slave was a really great story. The Accidental Slave: Aya's Story (The Slave Series #1)The Accidental Slave: Aya's Story by Elin Peer

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wonderfully complex

This story was so original with making a whole country up that you would never want to step a foot in. The main characters are so torn but made for each other. It's a beautiful story how they go through the bad and ugly and kept finding each other after denying their feelings for each other. I want to keep reading the series.
